All These Years, When Already?
I have friends who have been disgusted about the losing patterns of all Cleveland teams. It has been a long time since the Browns or Indians have had a championship. Give credit where credit is due, Cleveland fans may be the greatest in sports. You have to give props to people who spend their money to come and root for teams that have not won the way Cleveland fans do. If you look at other cities, such as Philadelphia, fans would have given up moons ago if they had to suffer the way the poor Cleveland fans have. In a [...]
Based on the video clip, you can see how very popular Mark DeRosa was in Chicago. DeRosa was always a fan favorite because of his versatility, hustle, and do-what-it-takes attitude. Cleveland fans should be thrilled to have a guy that can play every position on any day except pitcher or catcher. Last season DeRosa started 80 games at second, 10 games at third, 32 in RF, and 37 in LF. This kind of versatility just doesn’t exist with many of today’s prima donna players. As far as numbers go, DeRosa put up 21 homers and 87 RBI for the 2008 [...]
Do you really know anything about Cleveland’s Manager Eric Wedge? I never really knew much about him until I did a little homework. The myth is that he won a raffle to coach the Cleveland Indians in October of 2002. The 40-year-old Wedge seems to want to stay in the backround and quietly oversee what happens. Eric Wedge went to high school in Indiana and was part of a state championship winning team in 1983. He played college ball at Wichita State, where he helped the Shockers win the 1989 College World Series of Baseball Championship. Wedge was a catcher [...]

Revisiting Municipal Stadium
Hello Tribe fans! I am the new blogging host of Deep Left Field and my name is Paneech. I will do my best to keep you updated on all the good news headed toward Lake Erie this upcoming baseball season. I was really debating on what to do for a nice first post. Why not be a little nostalgic and take a trip down memory lane. I want to share with you all I have learned about Municipal Stadium, the home of the Indians from 1931-1993. The bluegrass surface also served as home for the Cleveland Browns. The stadium cost [...]
Carl Pavano – Third in the Rotation?
It went largely unnoticed, but the Indians signed P Carl Pavano to a one-year, $1.5 million contract in January. He is a pitcher obviously known for signing a four-year, $40 million contract with the New York Yankees and being injured throughout most of it. To make matters worse, Joe Torre gives him a good ripping in his new book, in which he criticizes Pavano’s dedication and ability to play through injuries. It doesn’t sound like much of a signing for the Tribe, but this is a legitimate reason to be excited, with an understandable level of caution, of course. The [...]
Whatever Happened to Travis Hafner?
In addition to writing for DLF, I am also writing for Gear Up for Sports. I will always try to link those articles over here as well, hopefully giving you some added perspective on the Indians. This one, as you probably guessed, is about DH Travis Hafner and the sudden drop off in his power numbers and overall ability to even hit the ball at times. Yet, he remains an integral component of the 2009 offense: Despite the fact that Hafner only played in 57 games last season due to injuries, he will remain as a key component of the [...]

Also, what better day to announce the start of a blog than the best day of the year? Pitchers and catchers reported today to the Indians’ new spring training facility in Goodyear, Arizona and optimism for the Tribe is [...]
