Welcome to the party

I realized yesterday that I’ve been writing for this site for about two weeks and I have yet to really introduce myself. And since there’s no real Indians news to write about, I’m hoping to let you know a little about me. Of course, you could go to the “about” section, but nobody reads that.

Anyways, I am Ed Carroll, and right now I am the sole voice of Deep Left Field.

I’m a 26 year-old, deeply passionate Indians fan. I’m also very opinionated about my Tribe. I’ll tell you when I think a move is stupid, smart, or even significant enough to get worked up over. I may not be right, but I’m at least going to present a viable argument.

I’ll use statistics as much as possible for these arguments. I’m a bit of a sabermetrics guy, but I’m terrible at math so I don’t know how to calculate some of the more advanced stats. I love OBP, dislike batting average, dislike RBIs, hate traditional fielding statistics (fielding percentage, errors, etc), and loathe win-loss records for pitchers.

While I have a job, I’m still looking for a career. I specialized in print journalism in college, so I’m a bit of a dinosaur when I comes to this fancy-shmancy interweb stuff. Photos, audio, video … I’m learning how to incorporate all of this on the fly. This is also admittedly my first venture into blogging. It’s a different style of writing from writing for a newspaper, and I’m still getting used to it.

So bear with me as I get acclimated, and get ready to start getting the Indians coverage you crave. It’s my goal to offer original stories, ideals and angles to everything Cleveland Indians. I know there are fans as passionate about this team as I am, and I’m determined to serve those fans to the best of my abilities.

So I’d like to say to you what was said to me by another Indians blogger when I told him I was lucky enough to land this gig:

“Welcome to the party.”
