Sizemore Out, Huff OK, and MLB Draft Notes

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

Some short takes on the day’s news: Grady Sizemore will be out at least 6-8 weeks and possibly the rest of the season. It’s a blow to the Indians’ confidence, to be sure, but it’s not like Grady was doing anything at the plate. I doubt the Tribe will miss the .271 OBP and zero home runs Sizemore was providing. Jensen Lewis was recalled and Aaron Laffey was sent down. Not a surprise, after Laffey Taffey’s last two outings. Laffey will be stretched out as a starter in Columbus while Lewis will hopefully provide some relief to the bullpen. Expect [...]

Which Pitchers Will Be Around in 2012?

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

Yesterday, I blogged about which players figure to still be around when the Indians’ next “window of contention” will supposedly open in 2012. I looked at position players only, so today I’d like to take a look at the pitchers. Keep in mind that this is all still very much up in the air for the Tribe; we’ve all seen guys that look legit fall off the face of the earth (Grady Sizemore, Raffy Perez, etc.). So here’s a rundown of pitchers still with the organization, and if I feel they will be around in 2012. It’s a little bit [...]

Which Tribe Players Will Be Around in 2012?

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

First off, I’d like to thank anyone to showed support to me after my grandfather died. It’s truly appreciated. I apologize for the lack of posts, but I needed some time off. While at the wake, the topic inevitably went to Tribe baseball with someone (sorry, don’t remember who) saying the only two guys he’d keep would be Asdrubal Cabrera and Shin-Soo Choo. This, coupled with a suggestion from my brother and my own suspicions that Matt LaPorta may be a bust, has led me to invesigate which guys will actually be around in 2012, when the Indians’ next “window [...]

Baseball Without Grandpa

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

The Indians are in a slump right now, after Kerry Wood’s five-run ninth inning cameo last night and as I type this the Tribe dropped yet another game to the Kansas City Royals today, losing 9-3. All this losing is wearing on me. I’ve been a baseball fan for most of my life now, and being a youngster in the 1990′s, I grew used to the winning ways of the Tribe. It was easy to be a fan back then, but one of the reasons I am still a fan now, after a decade of mostly losing, is because of [...]

Life Without Asdrubal

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Indians suffered a double kick to the balls last night, losing 4-3 in 11 innings, and much more importantly, losing SS Asdrubal Cabrera to a broken left forearm he suffered in the first inning after colliding with third baseman Jhonny Peralta. Cabrera  is on the DL, will likely need surgery and there is currently no timetable for his return. (This is just me, but if I’m Manny Acta, there’s no way I’m not glaring at Peralta every time I see him. No, I’m not insinuating that this was at all intentional, because it definitely wasn’t. But this is incredibly [...]

Tribe Clicking During Easy Schedule

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s been a relatively eventful weekend of Tribe baseball, as the Indians pulled a page out of the 95 Indians and scored 8 runs in the top of the 9th to rally from a 2-0 deficit at Baltimore on Saturday, followed by Jake the Snake tossing a gem today, and the Indians winning 5-1. It hasn’t all been bubblegum and daffodils though, as Grady Sizemore is now day-to-day with a right knee contusion. He injured it diving back to first after a single. The Indians will take a wait-and-see approach with Sizemore and will asses the situation tomorrow at Tampa [...]

33 In – What We Know (But the Tribe Won’t Admit)

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

It is 33 games into the 2010 campaign. While I’m one to stress sample size, and 33 games is indeed a terrible sample size, but a few things are obvious to me with the 2010 Tribe. Let’s take a look at them: Something is wrong with Grady Sizemore. I don’t know what it is that’s wrong with him, but it’s clearly bothering him and he’s digging himself even further into his slump. In 31 games Sizemore has a misrable .270 OBP and is displaying none of the power he was known for. It’s clearly a cause for concern among Tribe [...]

Hope for Cleveland

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

Let’s get two things straight before we go farther. 1. This is the last time I will blatantly blog about the Cleveland Cavaliers 2010 season. 2. This is for me, not for you. So if you’re not a Cleveland sports fan, or you don’t care to help me heal, you don’t need to read any more. It’s about 3 a.m. Cleveland time as I write this. But I can’t sleep. For those of you who strictly come to this site for Indians news, I’m sleepless over the Cavs losing to the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, four games [...]

Carmona Pads His Stats and Branyan Comes Alive

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

I know it’s hard to believe, but the Indians have won three straight and are not only out of the AL Central cellar, but are in sole command of third place in the division, for whatever that’s worth.  How did the Indians manage to pull this out? Well in the case of the two victories over the Royals, it’s been good starting pitching + solid bullpen work + timely hitting = beating out the worst team in the division. The good news is that even if the Indians lose today (which is a high possibility given that Zack Greinke is [...]

Cleveland and the Persistance of Hope

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Even though the Indians won handily last night, an 8-2 victory that featured Jake Westbrook pitching well and two (TWO!) homers by Russell “The Muscle” Branyan, my thoughts are far away from Kansas City right now, and are probably on a plane heading towards Boston. Yes, I’m referring to the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were blown out by the Boston Celtics. At home. With the series tied at 2, in arguably the most important game in franchise history. Biggest game in franchise history = worst playoff loss in franchise history. While this is not a basketball blog, I do feel that [...]
