Sizemore Out, Huff OK, and MLB Draft Notes

Some short takes on the day’s news:

Grady Sizemore will be out at least 6-8 weeks and possibly the rest of the season. It’s a blow to the Indians’ confidence, to be sure, but it’s not like Grady was doing anything at the plate. I doubt the Tribe will miss the .271 OBP and zero home runs Sizemore was providing.

Jensen Lewis was recalled and Aaron Laffey was sent down. Not a surprise, after Laffey Taffey’s last two outings. Laffey will be stretched out as a starter in Columbus while Lewis will hopefully provide some relief to the bullpen. Expect to see Laffey back soon if Masterson continues to struggle.

Scary moment yesterday when David Huff was struck in the head by an Alex Rodriguez line drive. Huff is apparently OK and while the Indians are being cautious, he may make his next start. Glad he’s not seriously injured.

The MLB Draft is fast approaching (June 7), and the Indians have their highest pick (#5) since they selected Paul Shuey #2 overall in 1992. Read a partial mock draft that has the Indians taking LHP Chris Sale from Florida Gulf Coast. I really don’t know enough about college baseball to comment (since we know the Indians hate taking high schoolers with top picks) but I do know I want the Indians to take the best player available, and not the easiest sign. The Tribe has a lot of money available for this year’s draft and I want to see them use it to get the best players. This draft is more important than free agency to the Indians right now.
