The Strange Case of Hector Ambriz
The Indians announced that RHP Hector Ambriz would undergo Tommy John surgery this offseason. You remember Ambriz, don’t you? The Tribe selected Ambriz with the fifth pick in the Rule 5 draft from the Diamondbacks, and he survived the season at the big league level (sort of). Ambriz hasn’t pitched since September 8th, when the Tribe shut him down for the season, but since he spent the majority of the year on the big league roster or disabled list he does not have to be offered back to Arizona. He now has three minor league options and a bum arm. [...]
Wish It Would Have Worked Out Better
Some thoughts on last night’s game and the Tribe: Kudos to Travis Hafner for um, doing what he is paid to do and hitting his first meaningful home run in what feels like three years. Remember when we expected the man formerly called Pronk to do things like hitting a home run with the game tied and two runners on? Yeah, neither do I anymore. To his credit, Hafner crushed that ball. It’s just too bad he’s only hit 12 of them this year. While his OBP is a respectable .372, his OBP of .816 is his lowest of any [...]
That’s Called a Winning Streak, it Has Happened Before
In case you haven’t noticed, and judging by the attendance you haven’t, the Indians have managed to win a few here and there, and are threatening to climb out of the cellar. -Harry Doyle, Major League While this season won’t end nearly as magically as Major League, the Indians have been playing well the past few days so I’d like to take this rare opportunity to point out some positives. 1. The Tribe has a bit of a cushion between themselves and the Royals for fourth place. Despite all the dismal years of Indians baseball in the past (see: 1955-1993), [...]
19 Seasons and Counting
With their 63rd win on Friday night, the Indians assured they would not lose 100 games for the first time since 1991. The win also brought them within half a game of the Royals for fourth place in the Central, hopefully they can get that done. Jeanmar Gomez takes the hill tonight against the Royals to try and propel the Tribe out of the cellar. I attended last night’s game, and the attendance was just over 25,000. This year, that’s a pretty good number at the Jake. In comparison, I was at the Browns game on Sunday and it was [...]
Tribe Trying Its Hardest to Make 100 Losses a Reality
The Indians continued to waste opportunities, as they have all season long, and allowed the Twins to finish off the sweep, losing 5-1. Carlos Carrasco was strong for five innings (but not six) and the Indians’ offense blew chances to bury Minnesota starter Nick Blackburn early. I’m kind of glad this game wasn’t on TV in the Cleveland area. Games like this usually make me want to vomit. For instance, in the second inning, Chris Gimenez had runners on first and second, and if Indians radio broadcaster Tom Hamilton’s description is accurate (and it usually is), then Gimenez bunted directly [...]
Still Chasing 100 Losses Link Fix
Entering into Tuesday’s game, the Indians are 62-88, which means they need to win one of their last 12 (just one!) in order to avoid a 100-loss season, which seemed like a reality at points during this season. With they way Fausto Carmona and Carlos Carrasco have been pitching, it seems likely that the Indians will win at least one more game this season. Here’s a link fix to catch up on what others are saying about your Cleveland Indians: Up first, Vince Grzegorek writes for Big League Stew a “Dear John” letter, saying goodbye to the 2010 Indians season. [...]
I Would Clean Up on “Beer Money” And the Tribe Loses
So the Indians failed to finish off the sweep of Kansas City Sunday, losing 6-4. Like probably most of the rest of America, I didn’t really care, instead paying more attention to the Browns loss versus the Kansas City Chiefs. Here’s Castrovince on what happened, because honestly you’ve heard this song before. After the game was the obviously low budget, but strangely entertaining, Beer Money. The more I watch that show, the more I get pissed I’ve never been on it. I watch a lot of Cleveland sports, and I could hold my own on Cavs trivia and expansion-era Browns. [...]
Come On Ride the Train..
Choo Chooooooo! Tonight’s 3 homer outburst by Shin-Soo Choo just saved my fantasy baseball season, and I’m loving it. I really hope the guy doesn’t get sent back to Korea. I heard a nice stat tonight while I was listening to the game at work: the Indians have the second best team ERA (the Giants are first) in the majors in the month of September. This is promising, as most of these pitchers will more than likely be on this team to start next season. On top of that, tonight’s win put the Tribe half a game ahead of the [...]
Tribe’s Support of Social Media Should Be Celebrated
Shout out to everyone attending the Tribe Social Forum tonight, which I regretfully will not be able to attend. The Indians are really embracing social media (blogs such as DLF, Twitter, etc.) and it’s very commendable. The slogan, “Are You IN The Tribe?” may be corny, but I do feel like an Indians insider thanks to the Indians’ welcoming of social media users. Hopefully the team keeps this up, even when (if) they are successful again, and continues their policy of not censoring what social media users say at the Tribe Social Deck and other social media outlets. I’ve been [...]
Pathetic Offense Masks Strong Pen Effort
Harry Doyle: That’s all we got, one goddamn hit? Assistant: You can’t say goddamn on the air. Harry Doyle: Don’t worry, nobody is listening anyway. -Major League Well, they got more than one hit, but not by much. The Tribe managed just two hits (and three baserunners total), and indeed, no one was watching, as the attendance was reported at 10,183. The Indians have been shut out for a major-league leading 15th time. Ouch. And I really hate to say I told you so, but in the case of Jeanmar Gomez, well, I told you so. He’s going to have [...]
