FanSided MLB Division Contest & My Picks for Best in AL Central

Spring training is right around the corner as the Indians pitchers and catcher report the 15th. To get readers and MLB fans excited, Fansided has made a fun contest to find the best players in baseball.

Each blog in each division gets together and picks an All Star team for their division.

While thinking about who to pick, I knew that no Kansas City Royals would make my team. That narrowed it down to finding players from the White Sox, Twins, Tigers, and Indians. Joakim Soria of the Royals was a near consensus pick at Closer, but I truly feel that Chris Perez is a great, rising talent.

The obvious picks that were made by everyone included Joe Mauer at catcher, Verlander and Buerhle at starting pitcher, and the Indians own Shin Soo Choo in the outfield.

My picks were as followed:

C-Joe Mauer-Twins
1B-Miguel Cabrera-Tigers
2B-Carlos Guillen-Tigers
3B-Brandon Inge-Tigers
SS-Asdrubal Cabrera-Indians
OF- Shin Soo Choo-Indians
OF-Grady Sizemore-Indians
OF-Denard Span-Twins
DH-Victor Martinez-Tigers
SP-Mark Buerhle-White Sox
SP-Justin Verlander-Tigers
SP-Francisco Liriano-Twins
SP-Fausto Carmona-Indians
SP-Carl Pavano-Twins
Setup-Joaquin Benoit-Tigers
Closer-Chris Perez-Indians

Feel free to comment with thoughts on my picks or picks of your own.

A little pro-Cleveland bias is to be expected, but couldn’t you give the closer spot to the Royal that really deserves it?

I have recently changed my vote to Soria. I just truly believe that Perez is a dominant closer.

Sure he is, but the Royals major league roster is a wasteland.
