Series Preview: Indians vs. White Sox

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

It’s that time of year again folks. Sorry for the lack of posts recently but as we all know school can be somewhat of a drag. This is a section that I’m going to attempt to have done for every series that the Tribe plays. So without further ado, let’s get to it. April 1, 2011 3:05 P.M. Progressive Field Scouting Report The addition of Jake Peavy to the pitching staff gives them a very good top of the rotation, along with Mark Buehrle. Also, adding power hitting Adam Dunn to the lineup gives them a presence that the Sox [...]

Notable Final Cuts

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

In my previous post I discussed the official active roster for opening day. In that roster a few familiar names were missing. Two of those are Jayson Nix and Luis Valbuena. Both Nix and Valbuena were hurt by the success of Jack Hannahan and Adam Everett this spring. Along with the signing of Orlando Cabrera, that leaves no open spots for these two. they both had a chance to prove themselves on the Tribe but failed to impress. Valbuena spent two years on the Tribe and spent most of his time at second base. He struggled at the plate which [...]

Indians 25 Man Roster is Set

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

The season is less than two days away and the roster has finally been trimmed to 25 players. Many players went to spring training, but only 25 will hold the honor of being on the opening day roster. The roster is as follows: Starting Pitchers: Fausto Carmona, Carlos Carrasco, Justin Masterson, Josh Tomlin, and Mitch Talbot Bullpen: Chad Durbin, Justin Germano, Frank Herrmann, Rafael Perez, Vinnie Pestano, Tony Sipp, and Chris Perez. Infield: Matt LaPorta, Orlando Cabrera, Asdrubal Cabrera, Jack Hannahan, and Adam Everett. When Jason Donald returns, Adam Everett will likely be the first one to be sent down. [...]

Travis Buck and the Situation in the Outfield

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

Travis Buck is a name that is not recognized among many Indians fans. Once the season starts, it will be. He is hitting .404 this spring and is looking to contribute during the season. He spent 2010 in Oakland and on their AAA team. He only played 14 games in the majors and has a career average of .250. He was on their opening day roster from 2007-2009 but he struggled and was sent to the minors. The injury of Sizemore benefits Buck as he is an outfielder. With Grady being out that leaves a starting outfield of Kearns, Brantley, [...]

Jack Hannahan Named Starting Third Baseman

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

The uncertainty at third base for the Indians has finally come to an end, for now. Manny Acta named Jack Hannahan the opening day starter at third base. He will fill the spot that was likely to be taken by Jason Donald. However, after getting hit by a pitch on the hand, Donald was bound to miss some considerable time. Hannahan is a great story, as he was out of the majors last year. He spent 2009 on the Mariners, but could not make their roster last season. He was invited to the Indians camp as a non-roster invite and [...]

Below is a list of the starting pitching assignments for April. This list is according to the rotation that Manny Acta announced and does not take into account changes in the rotation. Indians Rotation is Announced, David Huff to Columbus

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

Earlier today a press release by the Indians discussed some recent cuts from Goodyear. The Tribe sent David Huff and Jeanmar Gomez will start the season in Columbus. This eliminate two candidates for the final spot in the rotation and only leaves one player left, Josh Tomlin. Tomlin will begin the year in Cleveland as the number four starter. It was thought that Tomlin, Huff, and Gomez were competing for the fifth spot in the rotation. The fifth spot will now be filled by Mitch Talbot after a rough spring. He currently has an ERA of 8.61 in 23 innings [...]

New Poll: Indians Win Total in April

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Indians season is only a week away and they are looking for a strong start to the season. April is a crucial month for teams in the MLB to set a tone for the rest of the season. The Indians will play a total of 27 games in April, against 8 different teams. They have 15 games in the AL Central against every team in the division. If the Indians have a bad start, another rebuilding year may get an early start. That leaves one question for you, the fan/reader/both to answer. How many games will the Tribe win [...]

Indians Will Honor Feller on Opening Day and All Season

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

The recent death of Bob Feller was one that hit the Indians organization, and its fans hard. Those who are old enough to remember Feller, and those who are not were all impacted by his greatness. He finished his career, all with the Tribe, with 266 wins which is a club record. He also threw the only opening day no-hitter in the MLB. His legend spanned beyond baseball. This is apparent from his service in World War II, which made him a true American hero. The 92 year old Feller remained a fan of the team until his passing. Due [...]

Indians Without Two Starters on Opening Day

AUTHOR: | IN: Indians | COMMENTS: None Yet

Opening day is less than two weeks away and the Indians already have some injury problems. Both Jason Donald and Grady Sizemore, two starters, will not be in the opening day lineup. Sizemore was expected to be out after his knee surgery but the Donald injury was not expected. It came earlier this month when he was hit by a pitch on the left hand. He tried to play through the pain, but he made the right decision in letting it heal. He will be out of the games in Goodyear all week and will miss the beginning of the [...]
