Alex White Will Look to Impress
Tonight’s game will feature one of the highest rated propsects in the Indians farm system, in Alex White. He will no longer be a prospect after tonight’s game, and hopefully will live up to the hype. He was taken as the Indians first pick in the ’09 draft out of North Carolina. His callup is due to the injury of Carlos Carrasco who is now on the DL. White was chosen over David Huff, who many thought would be the one called up for the start. Huff had his chance in Cleveland, and proved to be inconsistent. He finished 2009 with [...]
Carlos Santana Officially Breaks out of Slump
As all Indians fans know, Carlos Santana gave the Indians their most exciting win of the season on Friday night. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth, he hit a walk-off grand slam to beat the Tigers. I know that it is only one hit, but it is the best possible hit any player could ever have. This should give Santana the confidence he needs to get back to his potential level of play. He is currently hitting .195 on the year, but he has 16 RBI. Looking at his stats reveals that Santana is much better [...]
Series Preview: Indians vs. Tigers
Alright, you want to be known as the best fans in sports? Well then it’s time to start acting like it. This team has been in first place for over three weeks and there’s still only 9,000 fans in the seats night in and night out. You wanted winning baseball, now you have it. This team is something to get excited about. I know it’s April and it’s chilly on the lakefront but the Tribe has rattled off ten straight at home. Another series, another sweep. Now it’s on to a Tiger’s team who has been struggling of late. A [...]
Series Preview: Indians vs. Royals
Much thanks to Steve who filled in while I was traveling back to the 3-3-0. AND since I was back in Ohio, I found that the Tribe was blacked out on my MLB TV…. I don’t even get STO back home thanks to stupid comcast!! Luckily it doesn’t appear that I missed much. The Tribe is mirred in a three game losing streak. As a matter of fact, the last time they won was against these Royals. Cleveland still sits atop the AL Central with a game and a half lead on Kansas City but that could all be changed [...]
Week 4 Fantasy Baseball Update
The 4th week of fantasy baseball on mlb.com has concluded and my team, Cleveland Choo17 is a perfect 4-0. It was a fairly easy week as my team won 249-175. My only move was to switch my utililty player from Russell Martin to Ichiro. It helped as Ichiro ending up scoring 3 more points than Martin. C Carlos Santana- 20 points 1B Albert Pujols- 32 points 2B Kelly Johnson- 22 points 3B Pablo Sandoval- 19 points SS Asdrubal Cabrera- 11 points OF Alfonso Soriano- 13 points OF Matt Kemp- 31 points OF Shin Soo Choo- 18 points Utility Ichiro Suzuki- [...]
Reality Setting in for the Tribe
The month of April is not yet over, and two Indians starting pitchers are injured. This is never a good sign for a team that wants to contend deep into the season. Mitch Talbot was recently sent to the DL with elbow pain and Carlos Carrasco may soon be joining him. Carrasco was pulled from Sunday’s game early, and it is now known that he has elbow soreness. These injuries will be a test to how the Tribe can hold up while facing adversity. They were riding high with an MLB-best record, but they are currently on a 3 game [...]
Just a few notes and thoughts from the Tribe’s first real rough stretch this season: I noted to a few people when Manny Acta removed Josh Tomlin that it was at least one batter too early. I know he had just walked his first batter of the game, but at 91 pitches he should have been allowed at least one more baserunner that way if he was pulled he still couldn’t lose. Besides, he was on fire. Who was going to do better than him? We all know what happened next. Now, fast forward to Sunday. Jeanmar Gomez came on [...]
Series Preview: Indians vs. Twins
The Indians come into Minnesota after a tough loss on Thursday in Kansas City. Josh Tomlin pitched a gem, but the bullpen could not close the game. They will look to bounce back against the last place Twins. Game 1: Friday April 22, 8:10 EST. Fausto Carmona vs. Brian Duensing Fausto has pitched great in his last three starts, going 1-1 with an ERA of 1.25. His ERA on the year is 4.74, but that is inflated due to his opening day debacle. He will need the support of the offense to get a win this time out. Brian Duensing [...]
Bullpen Falters as Tribe Lose in the 9th
For the first seven innings, it looked as if Josh Tomlin would join Justin Masterson with a record of 4-0. Tomlin had allowed no runs on five hits, while striking out four. He headed into the eighth win a 2 run cushion, but was pulled after walking a batter with one out. The Indians scored both of their runs in the fifth inning off of two similar hits by Grady Sizemore and Shin-Soo Choo. They were similar in the way that they were nearly caught by a diving outfielder. Grady hit a bloop into center that fell in between the [...]
Justin Masterson Improves to 4-0 as Tribe Win
After losing in the closest way possible on Tuesday, the Indians came back and got the win last night. They were led by Justin Masterson, who after a 2 run first inning, settled in. He improved his record to 4-0. In the first inning Masterson allowed runs on an Alex Gordon triple and a Jeff Francoeur single. This put the score at 2-0, and it looked like Masterson would struggle. He came back to pitch 5 more innings and not allow a single run. The Indians offense did not show up until the 6th inning, mostly due to Luke Hochevar’s [...]
