Alex White Will Look to Impress

Tonight’s game will feature one of the highest rated propsects in the Indians farm system, in Alex White. He will no longer be a prospect after tonight’s game, and hopefully will live up to the hype.

He was taken as the Indians first pick in the ’09 draft out of North Carolina. His callup is due to the injury of Carlos Carrasco who is now on the DL. White was chosen over David Huff, who many thought would be the one called up for the start. Huff had his chance in Cleveland, and proved to be inconsistent. He finished 2009 with 11 wins, and was sent down to the minors last season with 11 losses.

Calling up White is something that had to be done eventually. Everyone hears about his potential, and it is time for him to prove himself. He is one of the Indians highest rated minor league players, along with Lonnie Chisenhall and Jason Kipnis. They might stay in the minors until the rosters expand in April due to the current success of the team.

Chisenhall is a third baseman, and Jack Hannahan has proved himself at that position. Jason Donald is also in the rotation once he returns. Kipnis is a second baseman, but Orlando Cabrera is an asset to the team and will not be bumped in the lineup.
