Alex White’s Injury Solves Problems in Rotation (For Now)

Mitch Talbot is coming off the DL in the next few days, and there were many questions about who he would replace in the rotation. Alex White took his spot, but he has been pitching too good to be sent back down. The other player could have been Carlos Carrasco. Manny Acta even talked about Talbot in the bullpen, but he is a starter. Luckily for Acta, he does not have to make the decision because of White’s injury.

It was just reported on Indians on Deck that White will now be out for 8-12 weeks with a sprained ligament in his middle finger.

Mitch Talbot’s return will return the Indians rotation to what it was on opening day. Now that White will be out for a few months, it will be important that Talbot, and the others, remain healthy. Starting pitching has been keeping the team in games when the offense does not score runs until late in the game. For their comeback that seemingly happens every home game, the pitching has kept them in the game.

Talbot is scheduled to start Wednesday against the Red Sox. In 2 starts this season, Talbot is 1-0 with an ERA of 1.46. He pitched against the Red Sox on April 6th and got a ND in only 4.1 innings pitched. If he can return to his normal form, the Indians rotation will be a very tough one to defeat.
