Zach McAllister To Make His Debut Tonight

Tonight’s game will feature another Indians pitcher making his MLB debut this season in Zach McAllister, with the other being Alex White. He is in Cleveland to start in the place of Fausto Carmona, who is currently on the DL.

McAllister was acquired in the Austin Kearns trade last season for the Yankees. This trade was another example of great work by the Indians front office, especially considering the Indians resigned Kearns this past offseason. This means that the Yankees traded a great pitching prospect for a bench player, who did not have an impact on the team.

McAllister is having a great year this year, going 8-3 with an ERA of 2.97 in AAA Columbus. He was part of a rotation that features former Indians Jeanmar Gomez and David Huff. The three of them have a combined record of 25-7 this season. Any of the three could have been called up, but it makes sense to see what McAllister can do. Gomez and Huff have already pitched in the majors, so Manny Acta might as well put McAllister on the mound to see how good he truly is.

If Zach McAllister can have a good outing, he might be an option later in the year for the Tribe. Rookie Alex White is nearing his return, and might take the spot of either Mitch Talbot or Fausto Carmona in the rotation. White would likely take the spot of Talbot, as Acta has continued to stress his belief in Carmona. However, if Carmona continues to struggle later in the year, a pitcher like Zach McAllister could be a very realistic option. For now, he must simply focus on tonight’s game.
