What you are completely missing is that it keeps Carlos Santana's bat in the lineup. Santana played in a 155 games last season but only caught 95 of those games, which means by playing 1st base and DH'ing he was able to play an additional 60 games. Thus keeping arguable our best hitter in the lineup. No catcher in the MLB catches every game and the average catcher catches about 115 - 125 games a season. Also, Hafner hasn't hit lefties well the past 3 seasons. So "essentially" Santana is replacing Pronk in the lineup vs. lefties. Plus Marson's defense is more valuable than the lack of Hafner's bat vs. a LHP. Marson also batted .293 vs. LHP's last season. Let another org pay for him to serve his suspension. If he comes back in June and hits well he won't cost much to get in a trade. The Indians could have the same production for about the same cost from Day 1 by signing Vlad/Matsui/Damon.
