John Axford Explains Decision

Following his signing with the Indians, John Axford joined 92.3 The Fan’s Bull and Fox to talk about his time closing with the Brewers and why he chose to sign with the Indians, among other things.

Some of the topics covered in the interview are: Has he been promised the closer’s role?, What happened with the Brewers in 2011 and 2012?, and Where does he think he is as a pitcher right now?

While those are all well and important, Axford is also asked about his prowess for growing facial hair. If his ability to grow awesome facial hair is any indication of the type of pitcher he can be then the Indians should be in great shape. We also get to find out why he isn’t a professional hockey player since he is Canadian.

Most importantly, we get to find out why Axford chose to sign with the Indians. From listening to his answer, it seems to all come down to the clubhouse atmosphere and Terry Francona. You know, the same reason why everyone else seems to have signed with the Indians over the past two offseasons. It’s a great interview and gives us a chance to get to know a little bit more about John Axford and what makes him tick.
