They want to get further and he feels as if the team is poised and ready to take that next step. In his words, the team made it as far as they did despite some players having down years. They picked each other up all year-long and persevered.

In addition to talking about his teammates, Masterson also explains why he enjoys playing for Terry Francona. As we have heard time and time again from a number of players, the main takeaway is that Francona is a player’s manager. He let’s them be themselves. He also knows what it takes to get to the top of the summit thanks to his time in Boston. When Francona speaks, the team listens.

Lastly, Terry Francona explains why he loves managing Justin Masterson. Since day one, he has loved Masterson’s fire and competitive spirit. One has to remember, Francona has had the privilege of managing Masterson at two stages of his career. First as a young, dominant reliever and now as the ace of a starting rotation. You have to think it Francona had things his way, Justin Masterson would be in an Indians uniform for a very long time.
