More from Cleveland Guardians News

Cody Anderson

delivered five solid innings allowing just one unearned run on five hits setting a season high strikeout mark of seven while walking just one in leading the Akron RubberDucks to a 2-1 victory over the Erie SeaWolves.

Yesterday marked his ninth start of the season and his numbers are not overwhelming (2-3, 4.76 ERA) but one poor start against the same Erie team he faced yesterday has skewed them a bit.

Back on May 7th he lasted only 2.2 innings and allowed 10 runs (all earned) on 10 hits.

He was drafted by the Tribe in 14th round of the 2011 draft out of Feather River City College in Quincy California. Last season with the Indians High-A affiliate Carolina Muducats he made 23 starts and compiled a record of 9-4 with a 2.34 ERA which earned him a late season promotion to Double-A Akron.

Shawn Morimando delivered six innings allowing three runs (all earned) on just three hits striking out four and walking three in leading the Carolina Mudcats to a 3-1 victory over the Salem Red Sox.

Morimando (5-2, 3.83 ERA) earned the win and like Cody Anderson above has rebounded nicely against a team that pounded him the previous time they met. On May 8th against the same Sox squad he lasted just 1.1 innings and allowed eight runs (six earned) allowing three hits and walking three batters in his limited time.

He was drafted by the Indians out of Ocean Lakes High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The lefty spent the 2012 season with the Indians Class A affiliate Lake County Captains where he made 22 starts and posted a record of 7-6 with a 3.59 ERA.

Last season he made 27 starts for the Mudcats and posted a record of 8-13 with a 3.73 ERA. He is repeating the level to begin this season but has seen an uptick in his velocity and is striving to gain command of his secondary pitches. A few more outings like he had yesterday and he’ll be joining Cody Anderson in the Ducks rotation.
