Cleveland Indians catcher Roberto Perez made his major league debut against the New York Yankees yesterday and recorded a single off David Phelps in the bottom of the seventh for his first major league hit.

In the bottom of the eighth inning he delivered a 2-run homer to left that was originally ruled a double but overturned when Manager

Tito Francona came out to request that the umpires take a look at the play.

After the game Perez spoke about his big day.

Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com relayed a story that Perez only had two bats with him and broke them both leaving him scrambling for a piece of lumber. He chose one of Asdrubal Cabrera’s bats and said this:

“Cabrera’s bat is a little lighter than mine, but I’ll be asking him for a couple of more in the morning.” cleveland.com
