Indians Find Themselves Falling Back in Standings

The Indians had the day off on Thursday, but that didn’t mean there wasn’t an opportunity to gain ground in the standings. With both the Royals and Tigers taking the field, there was a possibility that the Tribe could climb a half game closer in both the AL Central and Wild Card races with losses by their aforementioned rivals.

So much for that.

Following Thursday’s action, the Indians now find themselves trailing the first place Royals by six games in the AL Central standings and the Tigers by 5.5 games for the second AL Wild Card berth.

The Tigers beat the Pirates solidly by a score of 5-2 behind their ace, Max Scherzer. Meanwhile, the Royals dominated the best team in baseball, the Oakland A’s, by a score of 7-3. Kansas City is now 9-1 over their last 10 games, including an eight game winning streak.

As for the rest of the teams in the AL Wild Card race, they all had the day off on Thursday.

The Indians will look to gain ground in the division and wild card races as they take on the Orioles in a three game series starting on Friday night. The Orioles, coincidentally, are the second hottest team in the American League and have won eight have their previous 10 games. and 17 of their last 25 since the All-Star break.

Meanwhile, Detroit and Seattle will face off in Detroit. The Yankees will travel to Tampa Bay to take on the Rays. Kansas City will be in Minnesota. Toronto is in Chicago to play the White Sox. The AL Wild Car lead Angels will travel to Texas to take on the Rangers.
