The Cleveland Indians confirmed the worst-case scenario for Nick Swisher‘s 2014 season: Swisher will undergo surgery today on both of his knees and miss 8-to-10 weeks, meaning he will be out for the remainder of the year. Cleveland.com’s Paul Hoynes tweeted the news earlier:
Nick Swisher undergoing surgery on both knees today. Done for year. Will need eight-10 weeks recovery time.

This closes the book on a dreadful 2014 season for Swisher. In 306 ABs, Swisher slashed .208/.278/.331, with eight home runs and 20 doubles. Hopefully Swisher can come into 2015 fully healthy, as he is set to make $15 million dollars in the third guaranteed year of his contract. The Indians appear to believe he will recover from the injury:
Mark Shapiro just said on WTAM 1100 that this is not something that will jeopardize Swisher’s career. They expect full recovery.
