Corey Kluber Looks To Build On 2014 Success

More from Cleveland Guardians News

The Cleveland Indians have not just a reigning  CY YOUNG Award winner on the pitching staff, but a true number one ace, leading the rotation in Corey Kluber.

With a good but younger pitching staff overall, Cleveland needed someone to take the reigns and fortunately Kluber was that guy.

He will not be the only guy with the experience needed to help guide the younger pitchers, trying to establish themselves as Gavin Floyd was signed earlier this off season but he is coming off an injured year.  Kluber, who won the award with an 18-9 record with an amazing 2.44 ERA has had increased success each year since arriving in Cleveland. If his role leads leads to more increased innings and complete games, he should have no issue with throwing a bit more as his innings jumped from to 235.2 last season compared to 147.1 in 2013 and obtained his first few complete games of his career last season as well.

The reality of Kluber’s record and ERA staying near where it was last year going forward is going to be difficult to say the least, but I do not believe he will digress that much.  If he finished with a record of 16-10 and an ERA of 3.20, that is very good and I would be satisfied with that as long as there is obvious improvements shown by the younger pitchers.

I do not believe he has reached his limit with his success and he still has room to improve.  Kluber is still under the team’s control for a few more years as the option to become a free agent cannot occur till 2019.

The team still has a while to resign him, but as long as he continues to progress and grow as a leader, the team should try to sign him as soon as they can so they have their ace leading the pitching staff into the next decade as his records should indicate his potential stardom.

If Kluber can pitch this year the way he did in the second half of last year, Cleveland’s ace can take the team to big opportunities. Those positive results Kluber demonstrates last year and going forward makes it another entertaining reason to look forward to Kluber’s progression and the team’s expected exciting success.
