Clevelinks: Talking Indians Fifth Starter, New Coaches And More

facebooktwitterreddit

In this weeks Weekly Wroundtable, the WoF team discussed who could emerge as the team’s fifth-starter as we enter Spring Training. With several candidates, including Danny Salazar, T.J. House, Josh Tomlin, Shaun Marcum, and Zach McAllister, it’s anyone’s guess who wins the job. The WoF did have a favorite, however it was not unanimous.

The Indians added three familiar names to the organization as special assistants recently. Charles Nagy, Travis Hafner and John McDonald will all take part in Spring Training and be part of player development. Each spent time with the Indians, with Nagy being a three-time All-Star in the ’90’s and the most successful. Hafner was a superb hitter, and one of the leagues best for about three years, while McDonald was drafted by the Indians. He spent 16 years in the Majors before retiring last month.

In AL Central news, the Detroit Tigers breathed a huge sigh of relief, as Victor Martinez is expected to only miss four to six weeks. After only needing to have the meniscus in his left knee repaired and not replaced, the outlook became much brighter. If it needed to be replaced, Martinez would have been out till near the All-Star break.
