Cleveland Indians’ Gavin Floyd ruled out for ‘foreseeable future’

Cleveland Indians’ starting pitcher Gavin Floyd was scheduled to have an MRI today on his right elbow – and the results did not come back positive.

According to Zack Meisel with the Northeast Ohio Media Group, the Tribe right-hander will be out for the “foreseeable future” after reinjuring the elbow stress fracture that ended his 2014 season. While the Indians medical staff is still evaluating treatment options for Floyd, another surgery has not yet been ruled out.

Floyd has had a rough go of things over the last two seasons. The 32-year-old righty returned from Tommy John surgery last season only to have a promising start to his season ended by a fractured elbow – the same elbow he reinjured this spring.

Floyd was originally scheduled to pitch on Sunday but was ruled out after reporting some discomfort in the pitching arm. As Nicholas Blazek wrote early this week, the setback could certainly open the door for someone else to break camp with the big league club. Namely, it could allow both Danny Salazar and T.J. House to fill the final two spots in the Tribe rotation.

Despite all that, the Indians signed Floyd to a one-year contract worth $4 million over the winter, with another $6 million available in incentives.
