The spring injury bug bites the Indians’ pitching staff

The Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago Cubs 10-6 on Tuesday, with some solid hitting and timely pitching. Michael Bourn looked great, going 3-for-3 while drawing a walk. Trevor Bauer had the only real “blemish” on the afternoon, allowing back-to-back-to-back home runs to the Cubs’ Jorge Soler, Javier Baez and Kris Bryant. Shaun Marcum was once again efficient, allowing just a home run in his two innings of work. With the news of Gavin Floyd‘s injury, Marcum could be a possibility to fill his shoes.

The Indians received some disappointing news regarding Floyd’s MRI, as it appears he has reinjured the stress fracture in his elbow from last season. The Indians’ training staff is still evaluating options for Floyd, who has missed much of the last two seasons to injuries (Tommy John, Elbow stress fracture). Having surgery once again hasn’t been ruled out.

Adding to the concerns of Floyd, Josh Tomlin will also miss some time after experiencing some tightness in his shoulder. Both Tomlin and manager Terry Francona said if it was the regular season he could pitch through it, it still is a bit worrisome. While the Indians came into camp with depth, it’s appearing they may be digging into it much sooner than anticipated with the pitching staff.
