Clevelinks: Indians Fall to the Athletics; Corey Kluber Signs One-Year Deal

The Oakland Athletics used one good inning against Cleveland Indians’ rotation candidate Danny Salazar to secure a 3-2 win over the Tribe on Wednesday. Salazar allowed three runs on two hits and two walks in his 1 2/3 innings. Brandon Moss has transitioned back to the game smoothly, hitting his second home run of the spring. The Indians will take on the Royals today at 4:05 p.m. ET.

In the Central, White Sox executive vice president Kenny Williams confirmed what was believed to be the case–Chris Sale will miss Opening Day for the Sox. After suffering an avulsion fracture in his right foot, Sale will resume baseball activities on March 21. But that will be too short a timeframe to be ready to go.

The Indians and Corey Kluber agreed to a one-year deal, as he was the last pre-arbitration eligible player left unsigned. While the two sides didn’t meet on a long-term deal before the deadline, it’s possible they could have one in place before the start of the season, similar to how they did with Jason Kipnis and Yan Gomes last season.

When Alex Rodriguez hit a home run 10 years ago, it was the norm. Now it’s news. Sort of. A-Rod hit his first of the spring in the Yankees 10-6 loss. Of more importance was the loss of Chris Capuano, who injured his quad making a play in the field. Capuano was expected to fill the Yanks final rotation spot.
