Indians top the Padres 4-2; Walters will miss time with strained oblique

Trevor Bauer

got himself back on track, and the rest of the staff was just as effective on Sunday as the Cleveland Indians beat the San Diego Padres 4-2. Errors and misplays led to most of the runs for both teams, as

Francisco Lindor

hit a in-the-park home run when

Wil Myers

lost track of his fly ball.

Lonnie Chisenhall

‘s error in the first led to a Padres score. The Tribe would score the go-ahead run off of

Jose Valverde

, with a

David Murphy

RBI single–followed later by a throwing error allowing the other run to score.

After coming back from an injury that shortened last season, Zach Walters figured to battle for a spot on the Opening Day roster. But the recent news of his right oblique strain will likely force him to start the season in Triple-A. Last year he dealt with a right intercostal injury, but the team says this injury isn’t related. Walters is expected to miss 3-4 weeks.

Just like when your kids return to school, sickness can pop up from players reporting to camp. The Tribe have had several players battling the flu, and several have missed time due to illness. But things can always be worse. The Brewers have had to ban high fives due to an outbreak of pink eye. That’s much, much worse.

It’s one thing to play yourself out of a starting spot, but to sneeze your way out? The Blue Jays Kevin Pillar did just that–temporarily at least–by straining his oblique following a sneeze. Pillar feels he could play through it, but the Jays are being careful, giving him a week to ten days to let it heal for precautionary measures.
