Cleveland Indians’ Francona Names Corey Kluber Opening Day Starter

Tribe falls to Royals; Kluber to start Opening Day and More

It was more of a formality than an announcement, but Cleveland Indians manager

made it official. The reigning

winner

will take the ball Opening Day for the Tribe against the Astros in Houston on April 6th. His opposition on the other side is yet to be determined, but

is a favorite to get the nod.

The Indians dropped one to the Royals on Monday, 6-5, but got another solid performance from Shaun Marcum. Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis help stake the Tribe to an early lead, but the Royals rallied late, and an Audy Ciriaco solo home run in the eighth was the deciding run.

Indians prospect Francisco Lindor is having a fine spring, and giving the fans a glimpse of what’s in store for the future. But it’s not just Jose Ramirez that’s going to keep him out of Cleveland initially. It’s his service time. Similar to the Cubs’ Kris Bryant, the team will benefit from waiting to call him up. There’s no questioning his talent, and it’s just a matter of time before he finds himself in Cleveland.
