Corey Kluber surfaced in the news yesterday for reasons that you may not expect. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner has often drawn comparisons to robots, but they have only been jokes. The rumors gained new traction, as Kluber appeared on the cover of Popular Mechanics, a magazine that is all about cool machines. In an article of 42 things that one should know how to do, Kluber was featured as the how to throw a curveball explanation.

While Kluber’s overall success has been well documented, and his slider has gotten quite the love, his curveball has been somewhat forgotten. Pitch F/X rates his curveball as 3.95 runs above average per every 100 pitches; his slider, 1.26. Combining these two plus pitches with a solid sinker, Kluber showed the ability to both strikeout batters and limit base runners.
