Corey Kluber and his curveball appear on Popular Mechanics, the Wroundtable discusses who of the Cleveland Indians would improve the most in 2015, and Omar Vizquel does the salsa

Corey Kluber surfaced in the news yesterday for reasons that you may not expect. The reigning AL Cy Young Award winner has often drawn comparisons to robots, but they have only been jokes. The rumors gained new traction, as Kluber appeared on the cover of Popular Mechanics, a magazine that is all about cool machines. In an article of 42 things that one should know how to do, Kluber was featured as the how to throw a curveball explanation.

While Kluber’s overall success has been well documented, and his slider has gotten quite the love, his curveball has been somewhat forgotten. Pitch F/X rates his curveball as 3.95 runs above average per every 100 pitches; his slider, 1.26. Combining these two plus pitches with a solid sinker, Kluber showed the ability to both strikeout batters and limit base runners.

Finally, Cleveland Indians’ great Omar Vizquel did the salsa in the Tigers’ clubhouse. The 11-time Gold Glove winner showed that he still has the talented footwork from his days on the field. Across 11 seasons with the Tribe, Vizquel amassed a 25.6 fWAR, mostly due to his talented defensive skills.

Francona had nothing but positive things to say on Friday despite Bauer’s poor performance on the mound:

Commissioner Rob Manfred spoke earlier in the week about the Indians’ low attendance in Cleveland, but the team does not seem to have a similar issue when it comes to drawing crowds out in Goodyear.

Lastly, pitcher Carlos Carrasco turns 28 today. Make sure to wish him a happy birthday! The nicer you are to him now, the nicer his performance will be during the season — or something like that.
