Clevelinks: Cleveland Indians Lose Josh Tomlin to Injury; Wroundtable Predictions

Depth Pitcher Josh Tomlin will miss three to four months due to a shoulder surgery, and the Wroundtable returns with bold predictions for 2015.

The Cleveland Indians lost some depth yesterday, as Josh Tomlin will require shoulder surgery and will miss three to four months. Tomlin had pitched well this spring, but not well enough; he ultimately lost out on the starting rotation and had been optioned to Triple-A. Tomlin started last season in the minors, but he came up to the MLB after making a few Triple-A starts. He pitched well, but tired quickly and moved to the bullpen. He finished the season with a less than stellar 4.76 ERA, although his 3.16 xFIP and 3.28 SIERA paint entirely different pictures.

One part of this injury that could become interesting is that Tomlin is on the major league disabled list, meaning that he will accrue service time during this injury, leaving him with over four years clocked in at the big leagues. This could mean many things, but one that pops into my mind is that the Tribe could be moving on from Tomlin in their long-term plans. With a history of injuries, including Tommy John Surgery, Tomlin may be non-tendered this offseason. This certainly makes sense, as Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Trevor Bauer, and Danny Salazar all appear to be part of the big picture, and T.J. House and Zach McAllister cannot be forgotten. Of the names that I listed, Carrasco will reach free agency the soonest in 2018.

The Weekly Wroundtable made its return yesterday, with the brilliant bunch making predictions for the Tribe in 2015. From who will win the World Series to who will be the Tribe’s MVP, your favourite writers have many bold predictions as to what will happen in 2015. Will everyone pick the Nationals to win the World Series? Read the piece to find out!
