Kluber outdueled on Opening Day in loss

With Opening Day finally here, the reigning AL

Cy YoungCorey Kluber

didn’t miss a beat, pitching 7 1/3 innings allowing only two runs. Unfortunately the Astros’ Keuchel was just a bit better, shutting out the Cleveland Indians through seven. The Tribe managed only three hits, and three walks on the day. Kluber took a no-hitter into the sixth, when

Jose Altuve

singled to end his bid. He later scored in the inning, breaking the tie and giving the Astros all they would need.

The Indians will get a day off on Tuesday, but our Brian Heise takes an in-depth look at the entire series with the Astros, including probables for the remainder of the series, stats, notes and more. For the Tribe, they’ll send another newly inked pitcher to the hill in Carlos Carrasco, who is expected to make his extension final on Wednesday.

The Detroit Tigers looked dominant with their new Opening Day starter David Price on the hill, shutting out the Twins 4-0. Price came within an out of the first Opening Day complete game shutout since 1970, but still finished with a gem.

The Kansas City Royals turned up their nose to the offseason spending of the White Sox to the tune of a 10-1 beat down on Opening Day. The Royals knocked Jeff Samardzija out early, as he lasted six innings but allowed five earned runs. The Royals also received their American League Championship rings prior to the game.
