Clevelinks: Cleveland Indians Win at Home, Trevor Bauer Fantastic Again

MLB honors Jackie Robinson; Tribe end losing streak

to the rescue for the Cleveland Indians. The Tribe avoided starting 0-5 at home as Bauer provided another solid start, going six innings in with eight strikeouts in the 4-2 win. The only concern with Bauer is his walk numbers. They haven’t been a performance issue, but the pitch counts have kept him from getting past the sixth inning in is first two games.

The Indians also received some good news in regards to starter Carlos Carrasco who was struck by a line drive in the jaw on Tuesday. Carrasco is in “miraculous” condition according to skipper Terry Francona, and will only have his start pushed back one day. He suffered only a jaw contusion, on a play that could have had much worse results.

With Yan Gomes out 6-8 weeks, the Indians have a question to answer behind the plate. While Roberto Perez is a capable backup, two months could be enough to fall out of the race in the division. So do they look outside for help? They do have options, including prospect Tony Wolters. Wahoo’s had Wolters on the podcast a couple of months ago, and the 22-year-old catcher could possibly find himself in Cleveland sooner than later.

Perfect no more. The Kansas City Royals were the last undefeated standing but fell to the Minnesota Twins 3-1. The Twins’ Kyle Gibson outdueled the Royals Edinson Volquez in a game that saw the offense take place early before the pitchers settled in. The Royals and Tigers each sit with only one loss in the division.
