Reaction: Cleveland Indians Corey Kluber Remains Winless as Tribe Loses to Royals

The first game back home was a struggle as the Cleveland Indians lost to the Kansas City Royals,  6-2. When will Corey Kluber catch a break this season is the million dollar question. Kluber is still without a win, now with a record of 0-3.

Kluber did pitch 6 1/3 innings, with five strikeouts. However, he gave up ten hits and six runs with four of them earned. Jason Vargas threw five innings, giving up three hits for Kansas City. Hopefully the remaining of games of this home stand can give the team some positive results.

Key Moments

Fifth Inning

Mike Aviles tied the game at two on a two run home run. Jason Kipnis scored the play. Aviles also got two walks during the game.

Seventh Inning

Corey Kluber left the game during the seventh inning after Mike Moustakas hit in a run, increasing the score to 4-2.

With Nick Hagadone pitching, Moustakas scored on a fielding error by Mike Aviles and later Lorenzo Cain scored leading to the 6-2 final score on an Alex Gordon single.

The Positives

Mike Aviles was the offense today. Despite being a utility man, Aviles owns the third highest OPS on the team at .823.

So far this season, Trevor Bauer has been one of the best pitchers. Tomorrow is another day to right the ship and help get the team back on its winning ways.

The Negatives

The Indians cannot get any momentum. The struggles started early again today with the first of three errors occurring in the first inning. That error belonged to Jason Kipnis on a throwing error. Jose Ramirez and Aviles also committed errors in the second and seventh innings respectively.

Corey Kluber is still without a win. Kluber has been putting up good performances, though he did give up six runs today, but the offense has not been able to give Kluber much run production. In fact today’s Tribe offense only got four hits.

Former Indian Mark Guthrie is starting for the Royals. Guthrie is 1-1 with a 5.50 ERA. Trevor Bauer was supposed to pitch over the weekend. However, just prior to his start he was scratched from the game because of food poisoning. Bauer gets the start tomorrow for Cleveland with a 2-0 record and an amazing 0.95 ERA.
