Clevelinks: Cleveland Indians End Skid Behind Danny Salazar; Win 7-5 Over Royals

Salazar helps end Tribe skid with third straight win

It was the least impressive of his three outings since his return, but the Cleveland Indians’

Danny Salazar

won’t complain as he moved to 3-0 as the Tribe beat the Kansas City Royals 7-5. The offense again showed some fight, as

Jason Kipnis

hit a three-run home run for his first of the season–while

Roberto Perez

added a solo shot in the eighth.

Cody Allen

decided to make it interesting, allowing a run in the ninth, but that was all the Royals could muster of a comeback.

Prior to the game on Wednesday, the Indians designated Jerry Sands for assignment while purchasing the contract of Ryan Webb from Columbus. Sands had been hitting well in limited action but doesn’t appear to be in the Indians future plans. Webb, a veteran reliever who has spent time with the Marlins, Padres, and Orioles will hopefully help bolster a bullpen that has been battered as of late.

If a baseball game is played, and there’s no one to see it–is it really played? The surreal scene of the Orioles and White Sox game was something you don’t ever expect to see. While the Indians don’t always draw big crowds, to see a stadium empty is something that’s hard to believe. The only thing I could even relate it to was early morning weekend baseball tournaments in March–in Michigan where I grew up. Handful of parents was about it. Two very different stages, two very similar crowds.

Former Tigers starter Max Scherzer inadvertently became a spokesman for the DH after injuring his thumb on a swing, saying “no one wants to see him hit”. An injury to the Cardinals Adam Wainwright seemed to help it gain momentum, except Waino doesn’t want the DH. The player who will miss the entire season still wants it. This debate will continue, even after a decision is made in he future.
