Pregame Notes: Cleveland Indians Look for Follow-Up Performance From Trevor Bauer

Bauer looks to close out series against dominant Wacha

It’ll be hard for the Cleveland Indians

to match the game that

had yesterday. But the concern isn’t so much in what Bauer (2-1, 4.19) will do. It’s what the Tribe will be able to accomplish against Cardinals starter

(5-0, 2.09). They haven’t lost in one of his starts yet but in his career, they’re winless in interleague play.

The Indians (12-20) have been very successful behind Bauer in his interleague starts. He’s 1-1 with a 2.35 ERA, but as a team they’re 4-1 in his starts vs the NL. Things got a little testy in yesterday’s game, as Matt Holliday was hit by Kluber, which later would prompt a warning from the umpire when Jason Kipnis was hit by John Lackey. That would lead to the ejection of Terry Francona, who argued that Lackey through at Kipnis intentionally.

The Cards (23-10) will be without Holliday in the starting lineup today, but he’s listed as day-to-day as x-rays were negative on his elbow. In interleague play, the Cardinals are getting a .306 clip from the DH spot since 1997, the best of all NL clubs. Mark Reynolds had been in that spot, but will move to left to fill in for the ailing Holliday. Jhonny Peralta will DH, as he had the only hit off Kluber in yesterday’s contest.
