Veteran Marcum solid in first start in two years

After shuffling back and forth between the Cleveland Indians and Triple-A Columbus, veteran

hopes he made enough of an impression to stay part of the Tribe’s rotation. While the fifth spot has been a question mark, Marcum made a solid case for it allowing just two runs (both on solo HRs) over 6 2/3 innings as the Indians defeated the Chicago White Sox, 4-3.

Marcum, making his first start since 2013, was efficient with his pitches, and was able to get into the seventh. After handing the ball over to Zach McAllister who retired the four batters he faced the turned it over to closer Cody Allen. When things are working, this is in theory how it should go. But this is of course baseball, and not theory.

The Kansas City Royals Alex Gordon has made a pretty good name for himself on defense. Diving grabs, some into the stands and in this case, damn near through a fence. No regard for himself. See ball. Catch ball. Seems to be working for him so far.
