Pregame Notes: Cleveland Indians Look to Sweep Cincinnati Reds as Yan Gomes Returns

Tribe go for sweep of Reds in Sunday finale

The Cleveland Indians are rolling, and they get back a key piece to help keep things going in the right direction as

returns to the lineup to face the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday.

(3-1, 3.31) will go for the Tribe, as the Reds will throw

(1-0, 3.94) as

was a late scratch due to “general stiffness”.

The Indians hope Bauer will have a better start than he did against the Reds in his first, which was a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks back in 2012. He lasted only three innings, allowing four runs (three earned). In his last outing for the Tribe, he picked up his first win in over a month in a win against the White Sox. He went 7 1/3, allowing just one run on four hits. He’s posted quality starts in all but two games.

The late scratch of Cueto doesn’t seem to be too much concern for the Reds, and Iglesias has performed well so far for them. In his only other start this season, he went eight innings, allowing just two hits. He pitched out of the bullpen on Wednesday, allowing two runs on three hits over an inning of work.

The red-hot Jason Kipnis only seems to be getting hotter, as he added the go-ahead RBI double to his accolades for the month of May, and is now hitting .591 at home during an 11-game hitting streak, and has gone 9-for-16 against the Reds in his last four games.
