Pregame Notes: Cleveland Indians Host the Texas Rangers in Memorial Day Contest

The Cleveland Indians have been good. I mean REALLy good as of late. The Tribe have posted an ERA of 1.98 in its last seven games, and its starts a 1.42 ERA. The Indians will hand the ball to

(1-0, 2.31), who will be making just his second start since 2013. The Texas Rangers will send

(1-0, 4.50) to the bump, who is making just his second career start overall.

The Indians (20-23) are slowly climbing their way back and have pulled themselves out of the AL Central. It’s just by percentage points, but they aren’t last. Jason Kipnis has been one of the best hitters in May, but it appears he may be getting some help. Carlos Santana had been suffering through some back stiffness and had at one point been mired in an 0-for-25 slump. But he’s doubled in each of the last three games, an encouraging sign for the Tribe.

The Rangers (21-23) welcome back Josh Hamilton, whose tumultuous exit from Anaheim is well documented. Hamilton was one of the best hitters in the game when in Texas previously, including an MVP season in 2010. His time with the Angels wasn’t near as productive, and he’s admitted relapsing with drugs and alcohol. He’s just recovered from offseason shoulder surgery, and the Rangers hope he can provide a spark for their offense.
