Cleveland Indians: Despite Solid Outing, Kluber Gets The Loss

Cleveland Indians ace Corey Kluber gave a solid pitching outing despite getting the loss. Kluber went eight innings while giving up four earned runs. He did keep up his strikeouts numbers with 9 this evening. Kluber now has a 3-6 record. Jason Vargas got the win after throwing 6 innings and striking out 3 Tribe batters.

Tonight’s Kluber outing was not like his most recent ones, but he still put up good numbers. In Kluber’s previous four starts, he threw 34 innings and had 50 strikeouts!

Key Moments

2nd Inning

With Ryan Raburn already on base via a single to center, Brandon Moss hit a double which drove Raburn in. That run tied the game at 1-1.

3rd Inning

Michael Bourn was able to connect on a double to start the inning. From there, Bourn moved to third on a Jason Kipnis groundout. Mike Aviles then singled to right, which scored Bourn.

This inning also hurt the Indians when the team gave up three of the four runs.

The Positives

Corey Kluber is not going to pitch lights out every time he is out on the mound. No pitcher will. His stats tonight were still very good despite not getting the run support that was needed for the win.

Luckily Bourn was not facing a left-handed pitcher tonight. He provided necessary offense to help keep his team in the game going 3-3, which was highlighted by his double and run in the third inning. Bourn also was the only Indian in the lineup to have more than one hit.

The Negatives

The Indians had their chances trying to score runs, but for one reason or another the team was not able to execute. Cleveland was 1-9 with runners in scoring position.

Check it Out

The Indians look to win another series tomorrow during the rubber game versus Kansas City. First pitch is set for 8:10 PM. Trevor Bauer gets the start for the Tribe as he faces off against Kansas City’s Chris Young.

Bauer has a 4-2 record with a 2.97 ERA. He has gone at least seven innings in each of the past four starts. Young is coming off of a six inning, seven strikeout pitching outing.

Michael Brantley got the night off, so I would assume he is back in the lineup tomorrow unless his back felt the way it did today.

Starting Friday, Cleveland will have two home series against the Baltimore Orioles and the Seattle Mariners.
