Tribe fall; Brady Aiken worth the gamble

There’s always going to that game when a pitcher is going to struggle. That game was last night for the

Cleveland Indians

Trevor Bauer

. The Mariners jumped on him in the fourth, taking advantage of Bauers inability to find the strikezone en route to a 9-3 win. He walked three in the third, which led to

Kyle Seager

‘s grand slam to make it 4-0 Mariners and essentially put the game away. Bauer lasted just 3 2/3 innings allowing six runs total.

The Indians tacked on a few irrelevant runs late, but one was of the first career RBI for Giovanny Urshela on a groundout. As a whole, the offense was disappointing, going 1-for-17 with runners in scoring position. Now the Tribe will turn to No. 5 starter Shaun Marcum to right the ship and prevent the sweep.

There’s a level of excitement to the promotion of Urshela, as it may be a precursor to the additon of more youth, like Francisco Lindor. But what effect will Urshela have on the Indians’ offense? Maybe not much, but on defense he will provide an upgrade behind a solid pitching core. He’s made great strides in his approach at the plate and does have some power in his bat. It will be an on the job learning experience, but the 23-year-old is more than capable.

The Indians chose to take last year’s No. 1 pick, Brady Aiken with the 17th overall selection, even with him recovering from Tommy John surgery. After failing to come to an agreement with the Astros last year after being made their top pick, Aiken enrolled at IMG Academy to be eligible for this years draft, only to leave his first start, leading to the surgery.

While the pick is a gamble of sorts, and selection of these young men is a gamble, injured or otherwise. The Indians did their due diligence and think they may have snuck a No.1 in the midlle of the round, but only time will tell.
