Indians look to change the pattern against Detroit

You hear it all the time in sports. Sometimes another team just “has your number”. That is all too true for the Cleveland Indians and the Detroit Tigers. The Tigers have won seven of nine against the Indians this season while

has absolutely owned Tribe pitching.

(6-3, 3.22) will try to slow the Tigers offense while the lefty

(1-1, 3.26) should see a lineup filled with several lefties himself.

The Indians (32-26) will need to find a way to end the Tigers dominance if they want to find their way back into the division race. Jason Kipnis will be a big part of that as he comes into this game second in the AL in average, trailing only the Tigers’ Cabrera (.346 to .345). It’s been “home sweet home” for Kipnis, as he leads the Majors with an astounding .409 average at Progressive Field.

Bauer has proven himself to be a quality pitcher, but walks have been an issue, and the Tigers (35-34) are a team that can make him pay as he leads the AL in free passes with 37. While his season has been called a “breakout” by some, the Tigers would be hard pressed to believe it.

J.D. Martinez, who is coming off a three home run game, Cabrera, and Victor Martinez are hitting a combined .324 against Bauer. Yoenis Cespedes has never faced Bauer but is a .295 career hitter against the Indians.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 pm ET at Progressive Field. SportsTime Ohio will have the television broadcast while WMMS 100.7 and WTAM 1100 will have it on the radio.
