Cleveland Indians Earn Walk-Off Win in Cody Anderson’s Debut

The Cleveland Indians earned their first walk-off win of the season on Sunday as they scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays 1-0. After a

single,

singled and moved Perez to third. After Kipnis took second on defensive indifference, the Ray walked

to load the bases.

hit a fly ball to center field, and

made the catch and came up firing. The throw was there, but catcher

couldn’t hold on to the ball after a brief collision as the Tribe earned the win.

The start for Cody Anderson in his debut was nothing less than spectacular. 7 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just four hits. Anderson is the Tribe’s second rated pitching prospect behind only last year’s pick Justus Sheffield. After a rough 2014, the Indians believed in him enough to add him to the 40-man roster. The move paid off as he put up impressive numbers at Akron before being promoted to Columbus just a few weeks ago. Now he’ll look to lock down the elusive fifth starter spot for good.

It’s not just the Indians the Tigers do it to. The Yankees got a piece of it on Sunday. J.D. Martinez homered in three consecutive at-bats in the 12-4 victory against New York to make the Detroit dads pretty happy on Father’ Day. Martinez flew out to right field in the eighth in his bid to hit four in a game.
