Tribe, Salazar look for second straight win

Compared to last night’s starter Cody Anderson, Danny Salazar is an experienced veteran even though he’s younger than the Cleveland Indians winning pitcher from Monday night. After struggling in his last two starts, he’ll look to get things back on track against the Tampa Bay Rays and Erasmo Ramirez.

In his last two outings, he’s failed to finish the fifth, and in his last outing against the Detroit Tigers, his throwing error led to six-run innings as he lost for the second time in three games. He’s previous five starts, Salazar (6-3, 4.06) had been impressive with a 2.90 ERA and a 2-1 record.

The Indians (34-41) are coming off a game in which they pounded out seven runs on 13 hits in support of Cody Anderson’s near perfect game. Salazar will be facing the Rays (42-36) for the first time in his career, and has only faced one other team from the AL East (Orioles).

Jason Kipnis continues his fine season, as he raised his average back to .348 yesterday to tie the Rangers’ Price Fielder for second in the AL batting title race behind Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera.

Erasmo Ramirez (6-2, 4.23) had to leave his last start early with a strained right groin. The Rays skipped over his last start as a precaution. After winning 14 of 18, the Rays have dropped six of their last eight.

Tonight’s game is slated for a 7:10 p.m. ET first pitch at Tropicana Field. SportsTime Ohio will have the television coverage while WMMS 100.7 and WTAM 1100 will have the radio broadcast.
