The Cleveland Indians Granted Permission to the Toronto Blue Jays to Meet with Mark Shapiro

With September approaching, rosters will expand soon. This means that games will become more exciting for fans of the Cleveland Indians, even though the team is falling out of contention. With this in mind, the Wroundtable discussed the potential September call-ups for whom we are the most excited.

In other news, the Cleveland Indians have granted the Toronto Blue Jays permission to meet with Mark Shapiro about him becoming the team’s president, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Shapiro has long been rumored to be the Jays’ first choice to replace Pal Beeston, but the rumors are beginning to hold much more credence.

Should the Blue Jays hire Shapiro to such a role, the Cleveland Indians would potentially receive some form of compensation for losing their president. It’s difficult to imagine what the team would receive, as recent payouts haven’t been too large. Hopefully, the courtship of Shapiro will be cleaner than last season’s attempt to lure away Dan Duquette of the Baltimore Orioles.

Finally, Jeff Mount discussed the possibility that the Cleveland Indians could make the Post Season through the Wild Card berth. As he noted, there are no standout teams to run away with the Wild Card spots, and it’s very well possible that a sub-.500 team could surge just enough to seize the bottom spot. In an interesting comparison to Julia Roberts, it is a piece worth reading.
