Clevelinks: Cleveland Indians to Activate Gavin Floyd; Masterson Notes
Gavin Floyd Will Return to the Cleveland Indians on Tuesday
The Cleveland Indians received some much-needed good news yesterday, as Gavin Floyd will be activated from the 60-day disabled list on Tuesday. The Tribe inked the 32-year-old to a one-year, four million dollar contract in the off-season with the hopes that he would be able to eat innings in a young and somewhat volatile rotation. These intentions quickly soured, however, when Floyd re-injured his elbow in what was initially declared a season-ending injury.

That Floyd will be able to return to the major leagues this season is most certainly a bonus for the team. For the Indians to break even on the deal, the right-hander would need to pitch at a super-star level over his four or five remaining starts. While this is incredibly unlikely, it is still a chance for the team to try and recoup some lost value.
In other news, Katrina Putnam argued that the Cleveland Indians should sign their former ace Justin Masterson in the off-season. The Jamaican native once appeared to be a potential top-tier starting pitcher, but he struggled with consistency and command over his tenure with the Tribe. 2014 saw his velocity drop and his command diminish, and the team traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals.
While Masterson has disappointed in his contract this year with the Boston Red Sox, he managed to reign in his walk rate to just fewer than 10% before his release, but his velocity continued to drop. As Katrina noted, the Cleveland Indians have a history of reviving pitching careers and they only need Masterson to pitch in the back of the rotation.
