Cleveland Indians: Trade Rumors Running Wild Involving Tribe

Is the trade of a Cleveland starter imminent?

Over Entering this offseason, the Cleveland Indians knew there wouldn’t be a lot of money to spend in free agency. Some–including myself–have been calling for the Tribe to consider trading one of their young starting pitchers for offensive help. With most of them under team control for the near future, the Tribe could score a decent return. But some of the most recent rumors don’t sound as appealing as the ones we’ve discussed recently.

It’s become public knowledge that the Indians are looking for an outfielder to a) fill in while Michael Brantley rehabs from surgery, and b) possibly the fail safe as the rest of the Tribe outfield are mostly unproven. But Brett Gardner of the New York Yankees? I don’t think this is what any of us had in mind. He had been previously known as a “speed” guy that could get on base and fuel a lineup. As of late, he turned into a lower-tier power hitter. With a bulk of money still owed to him, how wise would it be to deal Carlos Carrasco or Danny Salazar for him?

Our hypothetical offseason search for offense continues, this time examining the Red Sox Jackie Bradley Jr. While not your prototypical home run threat, he does have a strong line drive percentage as well as being a complete player. But would he be a fit in Cleveland? The answer to that will likely come soon with volume four of the series.

The Astros didn’t get the sweep in the first three postseason awards like the Chicago Cubs did, but they did net the Rookie of the Year and now the Cy Young winner in Dallas Keuchel. While some looked for David Price to win the award, Keuchel was more than deserving of the award while taking by a bigger margin than the race in the NL (Jake Arrieta over Zach Greinke).
