In a not so surprising move by the Cleveland Indians, they’ve added another arm to the bullpen–and you guessed it–on a minor league deal. It’s hard to tell if the Indians are savvy or scared. They don’t see, to be willing to sign anyone to anything other than a minor league deal, and it feels like they’ve invited 200 players to camp. Former Washington Nationals’ reliever Craig Stammen joins that group as the Tribe added him yesterday.

More from Away Back Gone

Yesterday, I discussed how I felt the best move for the Indians is to “lay low”, not making any moves till after Spring Training cuts start taking place. Stammen wasn’t what I had in mind when I talked about potential free agents still out there. But with a perceived “fear” of making a bad signing, waiting to see how players fare in camps that don’t make another teams roster could be a safe play as they look for a few more pieces to the puzzle.

There is much anticipation for Francisco Lindor‘s first full season in the majors. After finishing second in the AL Rookie of the Year race, the sophomore season of Frankie hopes to be something special for the Indians. With players like Bradley Zimmer and Clint Frazier just a few years behind, Lindor could very quickly become the face of a very young and talented team.
