Cleveland Indians sign Juan Uribe

The Cleveland Indians have improved the hot corner, as they have signed Juan Uribe to a one-year contract. While full details have not been announced – and may not be for a while – Buster Olney of ESPN has reported that the full value fell just shy of $5 million. This could represent a quality addition for the team, as the soon-to-be 37-year-old is still a decent fielder and average hitter. Steamer projects the third baseman to accrue 1.2 wins above a replacement player in just 74 games.

In other news, neither Craig Stammen nor Tommy Hunter will open the season on time, writes Paul Hoynes of Cleveland.com. The two relievers are still recovering from surgery.   Stammen had an operation to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right forearm; Hunter, a core muscle injury. Stammen, soon to be 32, is with the Indians on a minor league deal after only pitching four innings last year with the Washington Nationals. Hunter, on the other hand, has a major league pact.
