Michael Brantley could rejoin the Cleveland Indians sooner than expected

The Cleveland Indians received some much-needed good news yesterday when they learned that Michael Brantley could return early. Signals on a potential return had been mixed for a long while – some said May; others, Opening Day. He recently began hitting off a tee, which is the step before entering the batting cage.

A prompt return for Brantley would vastly improve the team’s outfield outlook, especially after Abraham Almonte’s 80-game suspension was announced. FanGraphs valued Brantley at almost four wins above a replacement player last year despite that fact that Brantley only appeared in 137 games. The Indians desperately need him for their playoff aspirations to come to fruition.

From another piece, Matt Bretz continues his prospect countdown with Jesus Aguilar at number 28. The right-handed batter has been with the Indians for nearly a decade but has only seen limited big-league action. The first baseman brings a lot of power to the table, and he is an okay fielder. On the contrary, Aguilar strikes out a ton and is a detriment on the base paths. 2016 does not appear to be his year to shine, as both Carlos Santana and Mike Napoli block his path.

Finally, Henry Palattella compares the Cleveland Indians to the other teams in the American League Central. With the reigning World Series champions, a developing team, and two big spenders, this division looks to be one of the most competitive in baseball. One area on which the Indians will have to rely is their starting rotation. Armed with Carlos Carrasco, Corey Kluber, and Danny Salazar, to thrive the Indians just need Trevor Bauer and the fifth guy to be competent.
