The Cleveland Indians received some good and some bad news yesterday

Michael Brantley sat out his third straight game yesterday. Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reported that Brantley is still experiencing fatigue in his surgically repaired right shoulder. While manager Terry Francona said that it was “a bit premature” to believe that Brantley might return to the disabled list, this is still bad news for the Cleveland Indians.

Also from that piece, Carlos Carrasco threw off a mound again yesterday, and Francona mentioned that the righty would throw an additional bullpen session this Monday. Francona also stated that Carrasco was back to “80-percent running”, which served as another positive result for the team. The starting pitcher has been on the shelf for nearly three weeks.

In other news, the Cleveland Indians recalled Tyler Naquin and placed Lonnie Chisenhall on the bereavement list, per Zack Meisel of Cleveland.com. Naquin appeared in 22 games for the Indians earlier this year after making the team out of Spring Training. His .327 on-base percentage was promising, although his baserunning and fielding were quite poor. He also struck out a whopping 34.5 percent of the time.

Finally, Matt Bretz previewed the Cleveland Indians’ new series against the Minnesota Twins. The Twins entered the series with an 8-25 record and an unsightly seven-game losing streak. Last night saw Josh Tomlin and Ricky Nolasco duel it out. Neither pitcher pitched particularly well, and they allowed a combined five home runs.

Marlon Byrd eventually drove in the winning runs on his double during the either inning, and Juan Uribe added an extra run for insurance that proved to be crucial. Cody Allen slammed the door in the ninth, but he also allowed a run on the way to the 7-6 victory.
