Cleveland Indians lost to the New York Yankees

The Cleveland Indians lost to the New York Yankees 7-6 in an extra-inning heartbreaker yesterday. Danny Salazar took the hill for the Tribe, and things did not go as well as in past starts. He allowed three runs over 5 2/3 innings, and another three scored on his tab after he left the game. On the bright side, he did strike out five Yankees while only walking two, although the eight hits pretty much negated that positive.

After typing the game in the seventh inning, the Indians managed to hold their lead until the 11th inning. Unfortunately, the bullpen failed once again, and Tommy Hunter allowed a pair of hits and a walk that knocked in the Yankees’ winning run.

In other news, the Indians claimed Tyler Olson from the Kansas City Royals. Olson, 26, has seen very little major-league action so far in his career, and his work has been rather uninspiring in that tiny sample size. Across 16 innings with the Seattle Mariners and the New York Yankees, he allowed two ten earned runs on a whopping 21 hits and 12 walks. He also only struck out eight batters and allowed two home runs.

His work has been a bit better in the minor leagues, although he has yet to show great promise. He did put together a few decent seasons as a starter in the Mariners’ system before switching to the bullpen in hopes of improving his performance. Unfortunately for him, he has yet to do so on a consistent basis.

The Indians will look to split the series this afternoon when Carlos Carrasco will face off against Masahiro Tanaka. Both starters have pitched very well this year, so it should be a good match to watch.
