Taking a look at the news surrounding the Cleveland Indians and the rest of the MLB on the morning of September 5, 2016.

The 2016 Cleveland Indians never seem to be out of a game. That held true Sunday evening when the Indians scored three runs in the bottom of the ninth to beat the Miami Marlins by the score of 6-5.

Marlins closer Fernando Rodney had an epic collapse, finished off by a walk-off single by Lonnie Chisenhall to give the Indians the sweep.

The Indians are now 6-0 on the current homestand and begin a four-game series against the Houston Astros tonight at Progressive Field.

Before the focus shifts to the game, let’s take a look at the news surrounding the Indians and the rest of the MLB in today’s edition of A.M. Wahoo’s.

Cleveland Indians News:

Yan Gomes Makes Rehab Start for Akron Rubberducks

"Yan Gomes has had a 2016 season he’d probably like to forget for the Cleveland Indians. There were epic struggles at the plate and, on July 17th in a game against the Minnesota Twins, the Tribe backstop suffered a dislocated right shoulder in a strange play at first base."

Coco Crisp and the Makeshift Outfield

"The Cleveland Indians have been juggling the three outfield spots all season, yet it has not affected the team’s performance on the field. In fact, the many options available to manager Terry Francona has enhanced the team as a whole."

Carrasco Joins Kershaw in Strikeout Club (Factory of Sadness)

"Carlos Carrasco is in with some elite company. En route to winning his 10 game of the 2016 campaign, Carrasco threw 7 1/3 scoreless innings struck out 11. It was the 10th double-digit strikeout performance of his career, and his third of the year."

Kluber Named AL Pitcher of the Month for August (Let’s Go Tribe)

"Corey Kluber was fantastic by any standard you want to use in August. Are you fan of win/loss records? He was 5-0 in six August starts. Like things that actually matter? He allowed just 11 earned runs with 44 strikeouts and 13 walks in 40.2 innings."

Brandon Guyer is the True HBP King (Call to the Pen)

"Brandon Guyer hasn’t found a new way to get on base, but he has found one that works. He, through 5 major league seasons, has 59 total walks compared to 64 times hit-by-pitch (HBP). This season for the Cleveland Indians, Guyer has 29 bases due to hit-by-pitch through 84 games."

MLB News:

Brewers, Dodgers Discussed Braun for Puig Trade (FanSided)

"Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig was recently placed on trade waivers and claimed by an unknown team. The Dodgers tried to negotiate with that team, but couldn’t get anything done. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Milwaukee Brewers were that team. The two sides attempted to work something out that would have sent Ryan Braun to the Dodgers and Puig to the Brewers, but nothing materialized."

Angels’ Shoemaker Hit by Liner, Has Skull Fracture (ESPN.com)

"Los Angeles Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker sustained a small skull fracture and hematoma when he was hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Kyle Seager on Sunday, forcing Shoemaker off the field with trainers on either side."

Kershaw Dominant in First Rehab Start (MLB.com)

"With the playoffs fast approaching, Clayton Kershaw (herniated disk) pitched in a baseball game for the first time since June 26 as he began a rehab assignment Saturday at Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga."
