This is going to sound bizarre, but Fausto Carmona actually pitched well against the Tigers. He was on a 5 game losing streak, but was able to hold the Tigers to 4 runs. During the past month, this might have been to large a defecit for the offense to overcome, but they finally woke up.

Things did not look good from the start. In the bottom of the first, Carmona allowed 3 runs, all with two outs. It seemed like the team was headed to another loss, but the offense woke up in the fourth with 4 runs. The Tribe batted around in the inning, with Matt LaPorta, Orlando Cabrera, Lou Marson, and Grady Sizemore all driving in runs.

The Tigers added another run in the bottom of the fourth, but that would be all the scoring for them. The Indians added two more runs with the lead at 6-4 heading into the ninth. Chris Perez came in and struck out the first two batters on a combined 7 pitches. He then got Brennan Boesch to fly out, which gave him his 17th save of the year. (more…)

The Indians are currently struggling, losing 4 of their last six, but you would not be able to tell this from the standings.

The Tribe have the best record in the American League at 31-19, along with a six game lead in the AL Central over the Detroit Tigers. This is the largest lead in any division in the MLB. The next largest lead in only 2.5 games, which is held by the St. Louis Cardinals in the NL Central. They own a 2.5 game lead over the Milwaukee Brewers.

The AL Central is usually a very strong division, and the Indians are usually struggling to contend. As with many things in 2011, the Indians are very lucky with the current state of the division. The records are as follows: (more…)

The Indians wrapped up the first full week of the season on Sunday with a win over the Mariners. It gave them the series sweep and their seventh win in a row. They hold a 1 game lead in the Central, and head into Anaheim on Monday night. The AL Central writers of the FanSided network have teamed up to provide a weekly recap for every team. This will be done every week, and can be found here on Puckett’s Pond.
